Glenzie vs Argyll

Home Win

Glenzie opened the scoring within two minutes when Shanahan picked up the ball from a scrum, on the Argyll 5m line, and powered over the line. Auld then quickly added a second when Glenzie turned the ball over and fed it through the backs for him to run in for the score. The Glenzie forwards then left the visitors reeling stealing the ball from an Argyll lineout, they ran through a patient couple of phases then a fast ball moved wide released Don to open his account. Brimming with confidence the home team maintained pressure and another lineout steal saw Bootland make good ground and released Muir on the overlap to run in to score. Fullback Don, solid under the high ball, added his second from an Argyll clearance weaving through the defence to touch down under the posts. A faultless kicking display from Ross and Cruickshanks made the half time score 35-0 to the home side. Argyll started the second half with more confidence after a strong finish to the first half scoring their first try within a minute of the restart. Spurned into action, Glenzie hit back with Shanahan showing good pace and strength to add his second. Argyll found another gear and put pressure on the home side, forcing errors and penalties. Their quick winger spotted a gap on the Glenzie blindside and raced in to add their second try. Continuing to press, strong running and good continuity saw their backs carve through the Glenzie tackles for their third try. Glenzie eventually seized back control of the game with the forwards stealing the ball from a scrum to give Don his third then finishing off the scoring from another turnover ball with Huddy splitting open the defence before passing to Watson to run in under the posts. Final score 52-15 to Glenzie. Despite the scoreline Argyll were a strong, pacey team and enjoyed periods of pressure. Their ball continuity and movement caused the home side headaches throughout, but Glenzie defended the periods of pressure well and were deserved winners.
Glenzie’s next game is at home (Allan Glens) to Cumbernauld on Sunday 21st Sept. Kick off time 14.00.
