Glenzie vs East Kilbride
Glenzie back to winning ways
The sunny weather and a firm pitch at Allan Glen’s suited Glenzie’s style of play and they ran out convincing winners against East Kilbride on Sunday. Straight from the kick off Glenzie were on the offensive and it wasn’t long before Watson opened the scoring. The home side kept up the momentum and Don ran in a second try minutes later, finishing off some excellent handling skills from the backs. East Kilbride upped their game, exerting pressure on the Glenzie defence, which resulted in a penalty on the 22, which they slotted home for the 3 points. From then the pressure was all Glenzie and they repeatedly created scoring chances, only to squander them by drifting across the pitch and running out of space. Eventually just before half time Auld ran in his first of the day, again from skilful handling by the backs. Half time 17-3.
A well-executed driving maul from a line-out saw Paul surge cross the line early in the second half and Allen then produced one of the best runs of the day, scything his way through the EK defence, only to be stopped just before the line and see his text book pop-pass fumbled. With the game firmly in their control Glenzie continued to batter the beleaguered visitors and further tries from Don, Watson and Auld kept the scores coming, with a final count of 37-3.
This was a good team performance by Glenzie, showing maturity in parts of their game with the forwards providing a solid platform and the backs handling well against one of the strongest oppositions in the league.
Next game is at home on the 16th Nov against Dalziel.
